Massage Therapy

Massage is available in our DeForest, Sun Prairie, and Waunakee Locations.

Massage therapy is another form of quality hands-on care that is offered at Bakke Chiropractic Clinic. Whether you are looking for a relaxing massage or a therapeutic massage to help with an acute or chronic problem we offer a wide variety of techniques to help you meet your health and wellness needs.

The benefits of massage therapy extend much further than merely relaxation! Regularly scheduled massages may improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, increase the range of motion, improve posture, enhance sleep quality and diminish stress levels. Massage therapy is also helpful in treating long-term conditions like tension headaches, neck pain, low back pain, shoulder pain, jaw (TMJ) pain, plantar fasciitis, arthritis, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. Massage is known to enhance your body’s healing process and can help speed the recovery process for muscle strains, overuse injuries, whiplash injuries and in many cases is beneficial post-operatively once scar tissue healing is complete.

The therapists at Bakke Clinic are skilled in numerous techniques of therapeutic massage. We will listen to you to determine what types of massage will fit your needs and work closely with you to reach your goals.

Massage Techniques

Swedish massage is a traditional massage technique that incorporates a variety of motions including long broad strokes, muscle stripping, kneading, rolling, vibration, and tapping to soothe muscles. Swedish massages help to relax muscles, increase circulation, remove metabolic waste products, shorten recovery time from muscular injuries or overuse. This form of massage is recommended for stress management, for overall wellness and relief of soft tissue pain.

Myofascial Release (MFR) uses gentle pressure to slowly sink into deeper layers of the muscle and connective tissue. The massage therapist uses a combination of stretching, rolling, pinching, and kneading to release any adhesions or restrictions that may lead to pain, inflammation, limit movement or block circulation. MFR is effective therapeutic approach in the relief of neck pain, back pain, fibromyalgia, scoliosis, chronic pain, TMJ pain, plantar fasciitis and headaches.

Trigger Point Massage is performed by holding a steady, even pressure over tender points with the goal of releasing that tension in the muscle. The pressure is adjusted throughout the massage to meet the clients comfort level and achieve the best outcome. Trigger points, or knots as they are more commonly known, are tender points in a muscle that may cause constant pain, or even refer pain to other areas of your body. Trigger points can develop over time and may be the result of injury, strain, overuse, stress or poor posture.

Neuromuscular Massage Therapy (NMT) is similar to trigger point therapy and is aimed at releasing muscle tension, spasm and scar tissue by applying focused pressure to a particular area. NMT is helpful with alleviating trigger points, muscle spasms, assisting with venous and lymphatic flow and restoring postural alignment. NMT incorporates stretching the muscles along with massage to increase flexibility, balance and strength.

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, non-invasive method to evaluate and release tensions deep in the body related to the craniosacral system. By balancing this system, CST encourages the body’s natural healing mechanisms and enhances the function of the central nervous system. Using a light touch, therapists release the restrictions which improve the body’s function and reduce pain and dysfunction. CST can help to reduce pain, decrease anxiety, improve sleep, and aid recovery from injury or surgery. The healing and gentle balancing properties can offer relaxation, increased energy and a heightened sense of physical and emotional well-being.

Prenatal Massage uses specific techniques to ease the stress and discomfort that may be caused by the physical changes a mother’s body undergoes during pregnancy.  While the body undergoes changes massage can help minimize stress and promote relaxation which is beneficial for both the mother and the fetus. Massage offers a safe, all-natural method of relief for common complaints such as headaches, back pain, fatigue, shoulder tension, swelling and mood swings. Massage is helpful both during the pregnancy and in the post-partum period following birth. Post-partum massage may aid in recovery after childbirth by helping to restore muscles to a healthier state. Therapists are trained to position the mother to be in safe and comfortable positions to make receiving massage possible throughout all stages of pregnancy.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage is designed to stimulate the flow of lymph, a fluid that carries oxygen, white blood cells and nutrients, through the body.  Lymphatic drainage massage helps to detoxify the immune system, remove toxins, reduce fluid retention, reduce swelling and inflammation and improve overall immune health. This technique of massage uses very light touch and is done in a specific flowing circular sequence to flush the entire lymph system. Lymphatic drainage massage is helpful when you feel the need to strengthen your immunity or to speed up your recovery from an illness.

Hot Stone Massage provides soothing heat that enhances relaxation and therapeutic results of your massage. The therapist uses smooth, heated stones as an extension of their hands or they may place a stone on an area of the body. As the heat from the stones soaks into the body, the muscles and other tissues become more relaxed and supple. This may allow the therapist to work deeper and alleviate tension in the muscles.
